I'm sorry that I've been too busy to post on my blog for some time.
This summer I completed 2 new operas. Esplandian and the Queen of California is a one hour opera based on a book published in 1510 about the first crusade between the Christians versus the Muslims who were trying to conquer Constantinople. Esplandian is a handsome, brave and skillful night who is in love with the Princess. This book is where the fictional word California first appeared and was used by early explorers to name California and Baja California.
The Roma Tango is a fifteen minute opera about a shy old maid bank clerk who goes to a Roma camp and falls in love with a handsome and talented violinist. But she learns not to trust her best friend.
I was inspired to create these new operas by my choir director Dr. Jadrian Tarver, who is also a Gonzaga University Professor of voice. I took his class last semester and our class project was to create an art song with a classmate. The song I composed was entitled Who Has Seen The Wind. It's a beautiful piece and there is a video of the Gonzaga recital on my Facebook page.
