SONG 12 THE WALLA WALLA COUNCIL – 3:20 (Sung by Stevens, Kamiakin, Lawyer, Owhi) Governor Stevens calls the tribes together for a council. Chief Lawyer argues in favor of a peace treaty virtually giving away their lands to the Americans. The Indian tribes argue amongst themselves. Chief Lawyer spreads lies of a plot against Stevens’ party. Chief Kamiakin’s arguments opposing the treaty seem to be swaying the sentiments of the tribes but under the threat of military action against them the tribes resentfully sign Governor Stevens’ peace treaty.
