SONG 01 BEFORE THE ANGLOS – 3:03 (Sung by Whist-alks.) The story begins with Whist-alks as The Narrator appearing as an old crone bemoaning the loss of her people and her way of life. She takes off her cloak and transforms into a beautiful young Indian Princess and sings of a horse race where a warrior named Ja-ya-yah-e-ha wins the fastest horse around by trickery and goes into self-imposed exile, changing his name to Ki-yi-yah (Running Wolf.) His new tribe’s chief Weow-we-wicht takes him into his teepee and treats him like a son.
