Imagine being taken to the past by a live performance to weave a story that can only be told on the lands it happened and was birthed from. The story of Mildred Bailey will be acted and sung by none other than Coeur d’Alene Tribal member CeCe Curtis-Cook. Her performance will take you to the turn of the century when America was going through its struggles and its heyday of the roaring 20’s and beyond. Enjoy a night of History, laughter and good ole music that makes you feel right at home. Produced by Gary A. Edwards and the Coeur d'Alene Casino.
On New Year’s Eve, I produced a show that features Cecilia Curtis from the Coeur d’Alene Tribe singing Mildred Bailey songs from 6 to 10 pm at the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Casino in Worley, Idaho from 6 to 10 pm. This will be the 5th time this show has been performed and everyone who loves swing music loves this show. The backup band is the Bruce Pennell trio which is one of the best swing trios in Spokane, Washington.
Gary Edwards plays guitar and sings 50's rock songs.
The EWU School of Music, Abigail Coté directing, is presenting excerpts from operas by area composers including the Qualchan Opera composed by Gary A. Edwards in 2016. The opera tells the love story of Qualchan who is courting his love in 1855 but their romance keeps getting interrupted by the call to battles to protect the Yakama Nation and its people, land, culture, religion and way of life. This is the heretofore untold story of the conquest of the West from the perspective of the native peoples.
Gary Edwards will talk about Qualchan, the bravest warrior in the Yakama Nation and the history of the Pacific Northwest Indian War of 1855-1858. This lecture is based on research Edwards conducted for 2.5 years for his Qualchan Opera that he composed.

Cecilia Curtis is singing a tribute to Mildred Bailey. Mildred Bailey was a famous CDA Tribal member who had several #1 hit songs on the radio in the 1930's and 1940's. She was a friend of Bing Crosby who sang in a duo with her brother and they helped each other throughout their careers. The show has a speakeasy theme.
