Gary A. Edwards Blog – 10/25/2016 Qualchan Opera finished, Book, Movie Reviews, Music Updates

Qualchan Opera – After a 2-year gestation period, I finished my Qualchan Opera yesterday on 10/25/2016. My baby is a hefty hour and 45 minutes long. It is about the coming of the settlers and the conflicts that took place leading to the final takeover of the Pacific Northwest territory from the Indians in September 1858. Qualchan is a brave warrior who falls in love with the Beautiful Whist-alks but their lives are enveloped in conflict with by encroaching settlers protected by the US Army near Yakama. The story is a musical drama with a tragic ending for the Indians. The next part for me is to get the blessing of the Yakama Nation, orchestrate the music for a pit orchestra and get the work produced. Writing was the easy part; getting produced is the hard part. Let me know if you want to assist with producing this wonderful work of music. Share this blog and contact me at gedward@roadrunner.com for more information.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch – This is one of the most interesting fiction works I have ever read and without getting too deeply into the plot, deals with Quantum Mechanics and multiverses. It is a mystery, action, psychological thriller and a uniquely compelling “what if?” story. I highly recommend it.

Marguerite is a movie I found on Netflix in French with English sub-titles. It was filmed in 2015 and the action takes place in 1920. It is a funny story, but sad at the same time, about a rich baroness who has this delusion that she is a good singer of classical music. Everyone around her panders to her and fosters her delusion. While laughing at the movie, the viewer has the feeling that everything is going to come to a bad end. The movie appears very similar to a 2016 movie featuring Meryl Streep which I plan to see and compare with this picture later.
